Studio Stu's Schedule

Studio Stu, my friend in upstate NY (the Catskils, near Woodstock) is a jazz virtuoso of the single string "Studivarius", a unique, well-crafted, custom made washtub bass. He plays it while crooning, solo or as part of a trio. Catch this act, if you can. Be sure to tell Studio you read about him in Innerartbits, and that Charlie says hello.

Hello, Everyone, Well, the full moon has come and gone and Spring is pushin' it's head out...are you ready for music?

This weekend I'll be travelin' around a bit, so try and catch me for some interesting musical treats. First up is Saturday afternoon in Rosendale, NY...this is a benefit for The Rosendale Street Festival...I'll be emceeing, and doing a set @ 3PM with many great acts performing all day.

Then I'll be headin' out to Ellenville, NY for a full night solo at one of my favorite places, Aroma Thyme Bistro...good, organic, exquisite food, an incredible wine list, and, live and in person, evocative jazz and exotic lounge.

AND, on Sunday, I'll be the emcee for a benefit @ Gotham Comedy Club in NYC for the Doug Flutie Autism Foundation...come on out and see nine acts of great comedy, Studio Stu doin' an early set, and help a notable cause as well.

Hope to see you out there and by doing so, encouraging venues to have live music...an always exhilarating experience....

All ways, sTuDIo.

Yvonne Gunner Photo Exhibit

Alan Fliegel - Yvonne Gunner - Studio Stu

Last month I was visiting my friends Alan Fliegel and Studio Stu in Kingston, New York. They introduced me to their friend, Yvonne, a photographer who is currently exhibiting black and white portraits at the 2/20 Gallery, in New York City.

Alan and his wife Lynn, own and run Babytoes, a business of handmade and hand painted kids and adults garments, in Phoenicia, NY. They also are co-owners of The Arts Upstairs, a gallery featuring many NY artists in their monthly, rotating exhibitions. We have featured Babytoes and the Arts Upstairs in this blog previously.

Studio Stu is a jazz virtuoso on the wash-tub bass, who performs regularly in that area of New York state. Friends of this blog have also read about him before.

If you happen to be in New York City anytime this November, check out Yvonne's Gallery show.

Roadtrip to Phoenecia

Last November Lynn, Stan and I took a weekend trip to visit our friends, the Fliegels, in the Catskill mountains of New York. They own Babytoes Gallery and operate it from The Art Upstairs Gallery, in Phoenicia. We helped them mount the opening of the monthly art show. Any and all artists are invited to submit work unjuried for exhibit and sale. The gallery takes a small cut of the sale. This concept works very well. About 200 people attended the opening!

We also toured around and looked at galleries and such in nearby Woodstock and Kingston where we had a delightful time roaming the streets and hanging out with Studio Stu, whose music is heard as background for the slide show below.

Studio Stu has been featured in Innerart before. He is the sole virtuoso of jazz on the Studivarious washtub bass. Hear for yourself two tunes from his CD album Fools in Love.
