The Short North Arts District launches the first in a series of "Hop-Art" installations at the October 7 Gallery Hop. Each month, a distinctly unique, interactive art experience will be spotlighted at Columbus' premier art celebration
The first installation will be the real-time creation of a 16 foot mural depicting "The Heart of the Short North." The highly visual piece will be created by artists from the Studios On High Gallery: Sandy Reddig, Jeff Shaw and Rhonda Bartoe Tucker. Other gallery members will pitch in throughout the night to assist with the ambitious undertaking. The mural will be a montage of images from the Short North… distinct architecture, arches, events, the hop crowd, the colors, the vibrancy. The 16' x 4' mural will be created with pastels on panels. The project begins at 4:00PM on Saturday, October 7 and is slated to conclude just five hours later at 9:00PM. It will be staged at the Gallery Hop's newly designated "Visitor's Center"... the open air courtyard directly in front of the Victorian Gate Condominiums at 663 N. High Street.
Visitors can meet the artists, watch the process as the mural comes to life, shop, dine and check back on the work's progress. At 10:00pm the intentionally-temporary installation will be "ceremoniously deinstalled!" In the tradition of sand paintings and sky writing, the art will exist for a fleeting moment, a vision to be experienced first hand by those attending the Hop.
