Landscape, January 9-25
The Concourse Gallery Upper Arlington Cultural Arts Commission, in partnership with the Sharon Weiss Gallery, is delighted to present the works of eight artists painting the landscape.
The genre of landscape painting came into its own in the 17th and 18th century through the painters of the Barbizon School in France and continues today through the contemporary artists of Landscape. Each artist of Landscape paints nature in a diverse range of styles and methods, including the plein aire tradition, a French phrase meaning “painting under the open sky”. The painters of Landscape are Rick Akers, Debra Dawson, Rachel Stern, Michael Hoza, Stacy Leeman, Edwin Shuttleworth III, Malcolm Baroway, and Betsy Arvidson. Uniquely reflecting the landscape of nature, the artist’s deep appreciation for the Ohio scenery and beyond is seen in every brushstroke and wash of color.
All painters of Landscape are represented by Sharon Weiss Gallery located in the Short North. Sharon Weiss owns the Sharon Weiss Gallery, formerly Antiques and Art on Poplar, which is located at 20 E. Lincoln Rd in the Short North. For 11 years, her gallery has exhibited 26 local artists who exhibit regularly, including one-person shows. Her collection includes a majority of Columbus area artist’s as well as surrounding area, ranges from Folk Art to Contemporary to Vintage Paintings.
